Improve ps4 pro download speeds

The quirks of old software I guess. Looking at our results: in our test, the current windows DNS server was set to 8. The server with the fastest response time was UltraDNS. The But Cloudflare was fastest of all. What to do now? Take your top results, and manually test them covered in the next section to see which one yields the fastest speeds. So, hopefully it makes a real difference some of you are seeing and a meaningful reduction in ping time.

Obviously your overall connection speed cap is the most important, but to get the absolute maximum percentage of your allotted speed you should also try to use an ethernet connection not wifi for your gaming whenever possible.

Thanks for the tips. This really helped my connection. I ended up switching to a LAN connection and using Cloudflare. I already had LAN, but google and cloudflare both increased download dramatically. I mean from like 28mbps to 68mbps during high usage hours, up to mbps at night. Ended up w cloudflare and my connection feels perfect.

Thanks OP. Used the info here to compare, OpenDNS improves mine the best as of the time being. I improved by mbps. As for Cloudflare only put me up 54mpbs. But thanks for the info. Hi I really appreciate your article!

I was wondering however how else I may improve my speed? It seems to me that no matter what I do I have a small lag that to me is very noticeable. I play fps games and have a ps4 pro. I have 1g internet speed with a wired connection. I have comcast. It has taken years for 4G networks to spread across the world, and there are still plenty of rural areas relying on 3G networks.

Even where there is 4G coverage, the speeds vary quite widely. We expect the full rollout of 5G networks to take a while; however, all three major carriers have made some pretty big advancements in 5G coverage over the past few months. For the uninitiated, 5G is built with a full array of different radio frequencies. Initially, Verizon employed mmWave for its 5G network, and as such you could only really connect to Verizon 5G in some areas of some cities.

Thankfully, the company now uses Sub-6 for its nationwide mobile network, which is something T-Mobile did from the beginning. The idea that 5G is a direct replacement for 4G is erroneous. By moving to four-bit memory cells without a major sacrifice in performance, Samsung could very well be dealing a stunning blow not just to competing SSDs, but to hard drives too. Crucial, a subsidiary of Micron is a brand known for memory and storage for over a decade, has recently released its MX SSDs which compete at the higher end of consumer SSDs with brands like Samsung.

It offers a great price per GB ratio and the reliability that started with the MX series. In addition, while the SSD average price has lowered, the MX still offers good performance in both writing and reading tasks. The MX is available with a manufacturer warranty of 5 years, a statement that shows the true performance and reliability of the memory chips built on the layer 3D NAND platform. The MX series offers encryption features that are performed on a hardware level instead of the older design that only used software level encryption.

In conclusion, the Crucial MX is one of the best choices for affordable high-capacity SSDs available at this moment. The price and warranty period should be enough for most users to choose this MX model, but Crucial also implemented their self-encryption technology. These two series obviously have different brand names on them, but internally they are identical. How can this be? Western Digital completed the acquisition of SanDisk in and now we are starting to see some products come to market that are identical internally and being sold by both of these widely known brands.

The similarities run deep between these two SSDs. As the hardware goes, they are indeed identical. Same controller, same flash array, and the same performance specifications. Even the firmware seems to be identical. They fit perfectly for PS4 Pro and are very worth your consideration. ADATA bills its latest 2. That makes this drive a solid pick for amateur content creators working with large files or anyone who might be running a server at home for gaming or for informal file access by friends and family.

As for using it for PS4 Pro, enthusiasts will surely be happy with the performance of this drive. SSDs are very much more reliable than hard drives with very low failure rate, let alone the unparalleled speed they offer. SSDs are wondrous devices obliterate long boot times, speed up how fast your apps and games load, and generally makes your PS4 Pro feel remarkably fast. Additionally, they are very reliable to the extent that they can last many years without generating an error.

The overall price of solid state storage has fallen sharply over the last 18 months. Additionally, while we seem to have hit something of a more steady decline now, SSDs have never been better value for money.

Note that some companies quote capacity after overhead, and others before. As both prices are same. For the sake of performance you cannot dispense with upgrading the internal hard drive of PS4. I doubt the stock hard drive of PS4 can last for too long under this situation. Firecuda SSHD is the most relevant for the overwhelming majority of users.

Maybe you need to think about an SSD, but that is too expensive and we only recommend it for exceptional uses.

Thanks a lot. Ok I have seen these also. But 1 silly q. If i put databank with 3. I will still check the video on YouTube.

Hey, my PS4 is basic one, 2 years old, and out of warranty. Can you please tell me whether this will work in my PS4? Yes, surely it will work flawlessly. Now, my situation is: I have an original PS4 not exactly from launch but about six months after , and only recently with games like Destiny 2 have I started to notice performance issues. But I think I read here that even with external storage, it is subject to the speed of the internal HDD.

And performance has not improved. Thanks for your time and insight! I noticed a lot of negative reviews Amazon on your acclaimed Seagate Firecuda 2tb SSHD due to a high failure rate after a couple of months. Any experience or issues with this? Say what you will about the stock HDD, but the thing is a tank in reliability…. If reliability is what concerns you the most, I advise you to go for an SSD.

But it also has its own bad reviews from customers! It means those who have got their drive failed, they came back and provided bad reviews. And remember one important thing here. The motivation for writing a good review is weaker than that of writing a bad review. Just imagine it yourself. What impels you to writing a good review if you are happy with your purchase?

What I am trying to tell you is that to avoid being driven by the rating thing. Seagate Firecuda is the most suitable drive for the wide variety of users who want a good compromise between capacity, speed and price.

Thank you so much for your quick and detailed response. I am one of those people, haha. In regards to just biting the bullet and going with an expensive SSD: I was originally drawn to your site because I was researching about upgrading my ps4 to an SSD.

Why recommend the Samsung EVO? Hi again Scott. I just thought you were one of these guys. That way if it happens that your drive fails, you are on the safe side with your backup copy.

A backup solution is mandatory when dealing with digital data, as failure may happen at any time without any warning. So you must be ready for that always. My ps4 keeps going into a safe mode loop the only option that works is the initialize ps4 and then maybe a day later it will do it again then I have to do it again it sucks so I just wanted to know could this be a hard drive issue?? So PS4 system behaves weird.

WD Black 1TB 2. Seagate Firecuda works best when it caches the game inside its SSD memory, which happens after you run that particular game 5 times. But before the game goes to the SSD cache, Firecuda works like any ordinary hard drive.

As for Seagate Firecuda Pro, it is for desktop computers and it cannot be used with PS4 unless you do some tweaks to the body of your game console. If you play online a lot, or play many VR games, WD black is what I advise you to go for, as Firecuda will let you down here.

Just a last note. Now the price is quite cheap for 1tb SSD. I have an original ps4. I run r6 mainly and now division 2. Always in party chat and network play. I almost bought the sshd but came back one last time and read your recent posts about ssd is better for online and the sshd is better for offline. My stuff is original parts so im seeing a lag and im obviously out of storage haha so its time… but if im going to spend the money i would rather get the right equipment.

So if i understand you right you think the ssd even though it only runs sata II would be better for online gaming vs sshd for offiline? Moreover, mechanical hard drives in general can halt occasionally for moments when processing data, according to the nature of mechanicality. So, for a smoother and seamless overall experience on PS4, you better get an SSD if you can afford the price.

Looking to buy the seagate firecuda drive but after reading this comment im not sure, is the difference between SSD and SSHD that noticeable for online gaming? Im not looking to spend lots on a SSD as im just after a bigger more reliable hard drive to replace my stock PS4 drive to store more games to play with friends, standard model PS4, also saw that SSD will be no good in this model, is that right? PS4 is pretty old now, think i got it within first year of release in UK.

Some will still disagree, but this is what I recommend and see right. I would really love that. Id definitely recommend it, still need to use ps4 more and try more games on it like red dead and gta, but it loads up OS much quicker, and after playing a game for a while it loads up loading screens quicker, worthwhile upgrade to last me for a few years then get ps5!!

Thanks again for your nice feedback. My PS4 is original console bought in Would upgrading my old hard drive, which is most likely busted from the fall, fix this issue? If so, which one is reliable enough to work with the first gen ps4? Yes, it will fix this issue if the culprit is the hard drive, which is in most cases.

Ok, so you were right changing the HDD was the reason for the boot up error. I ended up purchasing and installing the Seagate Barracuda 1TB. Thanks again! And thanks for coming back with a feedback. After 8 months. Upgraded my 1tb internal Toshiba original drive which came with PS4 slim.

To new baracuda 2. I have had no issues. I play VR and normal. And online overwatch and H1Z1 and so many more games. The ps4 runs faster smoother.

Load times actually depends on the servers of the PS4 playstation store. Aussie users are welcome to try these localized servers and see if there is an improvement over their default DNS servers, or the global ones like Google DNS we mentioned above.

Australian readers please leave a comment to let us know how you get on with these — is performance better or worse using these localized DNS servers? Another even more advanced and customized way to find an optimum pair of DNS servers for your location is the download and run the free DNS Benchmark Tool.

This is a special piece of software designed to test hundreds of different DNS servers to find the best ones for you in your current location. This is the more customized way to find DNS servers, since the DNS Benchmark Tool will find a totally unique pair of servers for you in your current location, rather than a preset, defined pair like with the above suggestions. To a small extent, it can effect gaming, but only up to a certain acceptable minimum — you can usually game online quite comfortably even with a speed of a couple of Mbps download speed on your internet package.
